5 reasons you need to eat groundnut this season.
If you happen to be in Nigeria at the moment, you'll bear me
witness that groundnut is every where. Teens and adults are seen hawking it in strategic
locations within the neighborhood, on the roads and some offices. Obviously, it's its season. Luckily for me, I
have a bowlful here which I hope to devour before I finish writing this.
Being a local breed, I've experimented on different ways to
enjoy this snacks. I love to either soak it inside my 'garri' or use ripened
bananas to eat it. If you are truly a Nigerian, you can attest to its yummy yummy
sweet taste. I bet you're salivating now!
Grown majorly in the Northern part of the country, it's one
of the most affordable snacks, probably that accounts for it being cherished by
all. My inquisitive mind has embarked on a journey. Guess what I found? There are
much more reasons for eating groundnut beyond the satisfaction it gives. You'll
have to follow me if you wanna access this knowledge. Here are my findings.
1. It is rich in protein and Vitamins: Groundnut is rich in
vegetable protein. It contains different kinds of vitamin A, B, C and E. It
also contains minerals like Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Boron etc. These helps in
brain function and bone development. Did you see that?
2. It lowers risk of weight gain: Groundnut is definitely for
you if don't want additional weight. Nutritionist hold it that people who eat groundnuts
at least twice weekly have lower chance of gaining weight than those who never
eat them.
3. It aids digestion: Groundnuts have good dietary fibre, so
they are good for easy digestion.
4. It resists diseases and infections: Eating sufficient Groundnut
lowers the risk of heart diseases and builds resistance against infections like
Hepatitis and Tuberculosis. It's equally good for growing children, pregnant
women and nursing mothers. Endeavor to get for these set of people when next
you want to buy groundnut.
5. It prevents blood related problems: Health workers claim
that groundnut and its products are useful in the treatment of blood related
disorders. It brings relief to people suffering from nose bleeding and helps
reduce excessive bleeding during mensuration in women.
Having seen the health values of groundnut, I believe your appetite
for it has improved. It's your choice to eat it raw, fried, roasted or boiled.
