4 Nasty Habits You
Will Have To Drop
"Love must be
sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good" Romans 12:9 NIV.
How I love the sisterhood! I reverence the call that connects
us, the grace we enjoy, the baptism we had and the life we're living. We've
come a long way, though yet to be perfect, we are better than we were. However,
in times like this, there is a need to address some of our unfitting conducts. By
the grace of God, I'll be blunt, hitting the nail on the head and lovingly
challenge us to turn a new leaf. Well, I apologize for my use of the word 'nasty' but you'll agree with me
sooner that there isn't such word better to accurately capture how
inappropriate, filthy, uncivilized, indecent and ungodly our behaviors can be.
I seriously hope that after reading this, you will not only put on a new attitude
but also encourage others to do the same.
1.Gossip: Was it not last week that you spread
the news that Bola had an abortion? Tope
couldn't come to church again because what she told you in utmost secrecy has
become the talk of the town. Were you not the 'devil' that ignited the flame of
hatred between Taiwo and Sam? Alas! This has stayed too far in our midst, we've
got to do something about this. Nothing wrecks relationships faster than gossips.
We must see to it that others don't get discouraged, scorned or rejected by the
words of our mouth.
"May the word of
my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Oh Lord, my Rock
and my Redeemer". Psalm 29:14
2. Soft Prostitution: What is it that church
girls are doing to church guys? Is it
really true that we take advantage of our brother's sincere and pure interest?
How come we led them on, accept dates, gifts, kiss etc and still decide to say 'No'.
You knew all along that he isn't your type, you don't like him, you're not
convinced or whatever, yet you don't deem it fit for the sake of Christ to tell
him. You may have to explain to God why you awaken His love when you're not
pleased.
'Daughters of
Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and the does of the field: do not arouse
or awaken love until it so desires.' SOS. 3:5
3. Envy and Pride: This has hindered true
friendship among us. We now mind our businesses, not reaching out nor accepting
offers of warm affections. we've found it difficult to relate with people of
supposed lower status. Really, when was the last time you give equal regard to
the sister of other denomination whose dress sense doesn't agree with yours? It's
very wrong to judge others based on what they wear or doesn't,
therefore, accept others in love. Envy isn't right too. It's definitely not people's
fault that God has blessed them with what you've always wanted. Please, don't allow
it in your heart. You should know that the same God working in other's lives
will soon reach you. Rejoice and let others be.
"Live in harmony with one another, do not
be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position, do not be
conceited" Romans 12:16 NIV.
4. Unforgiveness: It saddens God's heart to
see us treasuring the grudge of past offences in our heart. We've kept the wounds
from healing, we still nurture the scars. God really knows how hurt you felt
and as a loving father wants the best for you. He wants you to forgive and
forget so that you'll move on. Unforgiveness is a thief. It robs you of your
joy, your freedom and leaves you with recurring heartache. In-fact unfrogiveness
is practically taking poison and expecting the other person to die, the only
person suffering is you. It doesn't sounds great right? Since you've received
grace, extend grace to others. Let them go at least for the sake of our own
good life.
I guess this is enough for a day. I also believe God is
already showing us where we've erred. I pray that we'll be able to yield to His
dealings in us and through us. Watch out for the concluding part.
Have a blessed week!
